What does “PC Tune-Up” mean?
There’s a lot of conflict, double-talk, and horse-shtomping when we hear or read about a Tune-Up. There’s this website, that program, this price, that subscription, and it can be confusing.
Let us lay our cards on the table and let you know what we do when we do a Tune-Up. It’s enough information for you to almost do it yourself or for another tech to copy, but that’s okay with us, we’re here to help – directly or indirectly.
- We check out the entire computer.
- Physical inspection
- Remove all internal dust
- Check all fans and heat-generating sources
- Run tests on the hardware to make sure all is well
- Then we move onto the Tune-up
- We measure the start time of the computer
- Check everything that loads at start
- Check the Windows Event Log (Often forgotten about)
- Disable non-essential programs from loading at start
- Disable non-essential, erroneous services from loading
- Reboot
- Uninstall all unnecessary software using special tools to remove all traces
- Look for malicious software (Malware, Adware, Spyware, etc)
- Update all essential software
- Adobe Flash
- Adobe Reader
- Oracle’s Java
- All Microsoft Updates
- All browser updates
- We also check browser plugins/extensions
- Reboot and remeasure start time of the computer
- Perform a shutdown of the PC – It’s in our opinion that a fast shutdown is also a sign of health.
- At the Finish
- We physically clean the PC
- Have a different technician run a Quality Control Check
- Contact the client by text, email or phone.
- At pickup
- We take the time to show the client their computer
- Including what work we performed
- What we found
- And show them that everything is working as it should
And we back it all, with a 30 day, no questions asked, guarantee.
